New ropeway in Thyon officially opened!
NEW FACILITY IN THYON OFFICIALLY OPENED
New Combination Lift in Thyon: More Comfort and Opportunities
Just in time for Christmas, the new Bartholet combination lift "Telemixte de la Matze" in the Valais ski region of Thyon started its operation. With a total of 28 six-seater chairs and eight 10-seater panoramic gondolas designed by Studio F. A. Porsche, it significantly enhances the skiing offering of the family ski area. At the same time, the facility improves year-round connectivity between the lower settlement areas and the summit complex Thyon 2000, making the eastern access to the "Les 4 Vallées" ski area much more attractive.
The new combination lift replaces two drag lifts and runs along the La Matze ski slope for 874 meters from the terrace settlement Les Colonnes 1900 with numerous chalets and hotels and large parking capacities up to the holiday complex Thyon 2000 at an altitude of almost 2100 meters. The removal of the lift lines allowed for a significant widening of the ski area, particularly suitable for beginners and families. Now, they also benefit from the comfort and safety of the first six-seater chairs and gondolas in the area. Pedestrians and guests with reduced mobility can now reach the summit directly without shuttle buses. This opens up new winter opportunities such as tobogganing and creates new perspectives for the cable car company Télé-Thyon in the summer business, especially with offerings for mountain bikers and hikers.
With a winter capacity of 2000 people per hour, located directly at the largest car park in the ski area, the new Telemixte speeds up access to the "Les 4 Vallées" ski area - still the largest connected ski area in Switzerland with a total of 410 km of slopes. In summer, operated only with the eight 10-seater cabins, the lift transports a maximum of 600 guests per hour. By extending the operating hours to evening and night hours, the tourist offer can be further expanded.
Attractive Implementation:
Technologically, our new lift is based on the "Telemix" concept, which includes separate entry and exit areas for chair and gondola passengers. In Thyon, 14 six-seater chairs are followed by four gondolas. While the chairs remain on the track overnight, the 10-seater gondolas can be easily and quickly "garaged" in the two station areas. The choice was made for spacious 10-seater panoramic gondolas, designed by the Design Studio F. A. Porsche. With floor-to-ceiling glazing, they offer spectacular views of the Valaisan mountains and adapt easily to different uses thanks to foldable benches, integrated ski holders, and optional bike racks. Even with the hoodless 6-seater standard chairs, there's a "Porsche feeling".
For the first time in Switzerland, a Bartholet lift uses SEMER brand control.
The new lift is well received:
After starting construction work in February of last year and the cableway installation by Bartholet from early September, the new Télémixte La Matze went into operation on December 23. Already at the official opening in early February, the responsible persons of Télé-Thyon were pleased with the very good acceptance of the new lift: daily peaks of more than 8000 passages not only resulted in a significant relief of the Trabanta quad chairlift as the previous main axis in the area.
Under bright weather, the significant upgrade of the La Matze ski area, alongside expanded hotel capacities, also contributed to new record numbers of recorded passengers (+35% trips) and ski days (+22%). For the first time in history, according to Télé-Thyon, they will reach the mark of over 1 million trips by the end of January.
