A New Era for Ropeways Begins

Construction on the FlemXpress and the realization of our groundbreaking innovation, the Ropetaxi®, began in June 2022. The initial phase involved the construction of the main station in Startgels, while excavation securing and preliminary excavation work were carried out in Segnes. In the fall of 2022, the first support structures were erected along the Foppa to Startgels section of the route.

By the end of March 2023, the era of the old detachable chairlift from Flims to Foppa, and onwards to Naraus, came to a close. This chairlift, built by the former Flims mountain railways in 1945, was the world's first of its kind.

The FlemXpress now continues the legacy of innovation in chairlift technology along the Flims-Foppa route, although the area around Naraus will no longer be served by the FlemXpress. Currently, the chairlifts at the Flims valley station and the Foppa station are being dismantled. The stations themselves will be replaced, while the foundations will be preserved and expanded.

Construction progress is already significant in Startgels, where the installation of Ropetaxi®-railway technology is scheduled for the summer. Initial work on the station has also begun in Nagens Sura. The completion of the first two sections, Flims-Foppa and Foppa-Startgels, along with their respective stations, is expected by the end of 2023.
