Telemix 6/10 in Thyon, Switzerland

The new combined ropeway «Telemixte de la Matze» in the Valais ski region of Thyon was commissioned in time for Christmas 2023. Featuring a total of 28 six-seater chairs and eight 10-seater panoramic gondolas designed by Studio F. A. Porsche, the installation represents a significant upgrade to the slope offering in this family-friendly ski area. At the same time, it improves year-round connectivity between the lower residential areas and the Thyon 2000 summit complex, making the eastern access to the large ski network «Les 4 Vallées» considerably more attractive.

The new combined ropeway replaces two drag lifts and runs along the La Matze ski slope over a length of 874 metres, connecting the terraced residential area Les Colonnes 1900 with the holiday resort Thyon 2000. The removal of the former lift alignments has allowed the ski slope to be significantly widened, which is particularly beneficial for beginners and families. Pedestrians and guests with reduced mobility can now also reach the summit directly without shuttle buses, opening up new winter activities such as sledging and providing the ropeway operator Télé-Thyon with new opportunities for the summer season.

With a winter transport capacity of 2000 passengers per hour, the new Telemix accelerates access to the «Les 4 Vallées» ski area and is located directly next to the largest car park in the resort. In summer operation, when only the eight 10-seater cabins are in service, the installation transports up to 600 passengers per hour. Extending operating hours into the evening and night further enhances the area’s tourism offering.

The technological concept is based on the «Telemix» system, which features separate boarding and disembarking areas for chairs and gondolas. In Thyon, 14 six-seater chairs are followed by four gondolas in sequence. The spacious 10-seater panoramic gondolas offer spectacular views of the Valais Alps and can be easily adapted to different usage requirements. The standard six-seater chairs also convey a distinct “Porsche feeling”.
