Fixed-Grip 4-Seater Chairlift in Ushuaia, Argentina

Located in southern Argentina and surrounded by the Andes, glaciers and the South Pacific Ocean, Ushuaia is the southernmost city in the world. In June 2026, a fixed-grip quad chairlift was successfully commissioned, providing reliable access to the ski area and ensuring a comfortable ride for visitors.
 

In the first phase of operation, the lift runs with 126 chairs and offers a transport capacity of 1,450 passengers per hour. Upon completion of the final expansion stage, a total of 139 chairs will increase the capacity to 1,600 passengers per hour.

With a line length of approximately 1.4 kilometres and a vertical rise of more than 200 metres, the installation connects the valley and mountain stations in just under eleven minutes. The system provides an efficient and comfortable link within the ski area and creates ideal conditions for reliable operation throughout the winter season.
 

The project posed significant challenges in terms of planning and logistics. Travel time for the project team from Switzerland was approximately 30 hours, highlighting the company’s international reach. The transportation of materials also required careful coordination: delivery times were around eight weeks, while parts of the construction site could only be accessed using off-road vehicles.

The project demonstrates how sophisticated ropeway installations can be implemented efficiently and on schedule, even in remote regions.
