New Access Development for Blatten: Bartholet Delivers RopeTwin System
With the groundbreaking ceremony for the Wiler–Weissenried project, construction has begun on a new access link for the previously isolated village of Weissenried. Planning, system design, and implementation are being carried out by Bartholet Ropeways AG, based in Flums. The system will be built within a construction period of just nine months and is scheduled to provide a year-round connection between Wiler and Weissenried from mid-December 2026.
The new connection represents a key infrastructure milestone for Blatten. Set in alpine terrain and developed under challenging conditions, the solution is designed for high operational reliability and availability. It will ensure both passenger transport and logistical operations and, during the simultaneous construction of the new cantonal road, will secure basic supplies as well as access for emergency services to Blatten.
“RopeTwin is a field-proven solution for complex situations. Standardized components, customized for each project, enable quality and efficiency at the same time,” says CEO Markus Menzi.
Fast Construction, High Maintainability, Minimal Structural Impact
The compact design of the system minimizes intervention in the surrounding environment and enables rapid implementation under challenging topographical conditions. At the same time, it ensures high maintainability and low operating costs throughout the entire lifecycle. Designed for maximum availability, the installation allows for efficient maintenance—an essential prerequisite for stable infrastructure at a remote location.
As a Swiss manufacturer, Bartholet delivers a significant share of the project’s value creation domestically. Development, engineering, and key manufacturing processes are carried out in Switzerland, enabling short decision-making paths, high flexibility, and consistent quality control. The company is supported by the industrial strength of the HTI Group, whose member companies—including Prinoth—were already deployed with specialized vehicles in connection with the rockslide in Blatten.
Passenger transport will be provided by a panoramic cabin designed by Studio F. A. Porsche. Offering capacity for up to eight passengers, it is suitable for both passenger and material transport.
“The Blatten project exemplifies what Bartholet stands for: the reliable and safe delivery of advanced infrastructure within a short timeframe. Completing the system in just nine months is the result of system-oriented thinking, experience, and Swiss value creation,” says CEO Markus Menzi.
