RopeTwin World Premiere Successfully Implemented in Rodi–Tremorgio
Rodi–Tremorgio RopeTwin Aerial Tramway
With the commissioning of the modernized Rodi–Tremorgio aerial tramway, the first RopeTwin installation officially entered service. The project marks a significant milestone for the RopeTwin system platform and confirms its capabilities under demanding alpine conditions.
Since June 2026, the tramway has connected the district of Rodi-Fiesso at an altitude of 940 metres with Lago Tremorgio at 1,830 metres in just five minutes. As part of the modernization project, the existing station buildings were retained, while the ropeway equipment and control system were completely renewed. The project therefore combines proven infrastructure with state-of-the-art ropeway technology.
Optimized Line Layout and Challenging Implementation
A key feature of the installation is its optimized line alignment. The two former lattice towers were replaced by a single 42-metre-high tubular steel tower. The new line configuration improves the operational characteristics of the tramway and ensures smooth and stable ride quality.
Particular challenges were posed by the mountain station, which is accessible exclusively by helicopter. Planning, logistics and installation required the highest level of precision as well as close coordination among all project partners involved.
Premiere for the RopeTwin System
The project in Rodi marks the first deployment of RopeTwin, the modular system platform for small aerial tramways. The platform is distinguished by its compact design, high degree of flexibility and maintenance-friendly construction. These features enhance operational reliability and availability, significantly reduce maintenance requirements and open up a wide range of application possibilities.
The installation is equipped with two cabins, each accommodating eight passengers, and provides comfortable access to one of Switzerland’s most beautiful mountain lakes. Furthermore, this project marks the first use of a Sigma cabin within a RopeTwin installation. Membership in the HTI Group provides access to a broad portfolio of cabin designs and creates additional opportunities for customized solutions.
