New Milk Ropeway in Fidaz Begins Test Operations

The new milk ropeway connecting the Flims district of Fidaz with Flimserstein has successfully entered its test operation phase.

The fully integrated RopeTwin installation was specifically designed to meet the requirements of alpine operations. After being ready for agricultural use in time for the 2026 alpine farming season, it has now also been approved for public operation. Through an online ticketing system, visitors can book their preferred time slot and enjoy the journey to Flimserstein.

The primary purpose of the installation remains the support of alpine farming activities. Up to 650 litres of milk are transported safely and efficiently down to the valley every day. In addition, the system can also transport cattle and other materials when required, significantly facilitating the management of the alpine plateau.
At the same time, the cableway opens up new opportunities for hikers and day visitors.

Fidaz is the starting point of a popular via ferrata and offers impressive views of the surrounding mountain landscape. The milk cableway provides convenient access to the plateau and offers an attractive alternative to hiking back down, particularly for the return journey.

The construction of the installation presented the project team with unique technical challenges. As neither the mountain station nor the towers could be accessed by conventional means, key construction work had to be carried out with helicopter support. The operations required maximum precision and could only be performed under suitable weather conditions.

With the successful commissioning of the installation, the region now benefits from a modern, autonomous and reliable transport solution that combines alpine agriculture, tourism and technical innovation. During the journey, passengers enjoy spectacular views of the Sardona Tectonic Arena, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The new milk cableway successfully combines tradition and modernity while creating added value for local residents, alpine farms and visitors alike.
