A new “RopeTwin” aerial tramway in Fidaz for transporting milk
In the Swiss municipality of Flims in the canton of Graubünden, the existing so‑called “milk cableway”, which is around 50 years old, is currently being replaced by a new aerial tramway built by us. The route leads from the district of Fidaz up to Flimserstein, a high plateau north of Flims.
The main purpose of this aerial tramway will continue to be the transport of milk: up to 650 liters are transported down to the valley twice a day. However, from May to October, the ropeway also carries passengers up to the high plateau.
The new ropeway will consist of two 8-seater cabins, designed by Design Studio F. A. Porsche, which will transport up to 70 passengers per hour. The journey takes around seven minutes – with magnificent views of the mountains.
The construction of the new milk ropeway continues to make steady progress. On January 27, the old installation completed its final run, followed by the full dismantling of the cabin, cables, and structural components. The first suspension cable has already been successfully installed. The next steps include pulling in additional cables that are essential to move this ropeway project forward. Until the completion, the project remains highly weather-dependent and requires great care and flexibility to ensure the highest safety and quality standards at all times.
If everything goes according to plan, the new Fidaz milk cableway will go into operation in May – as one of the first RopeTwin projects from Bartholet in Switzerland. A real pioneering project that combines technology, alpine farming and tourism.
