Handcrafted work that will later go unnoticed: Rope splicing at Greppon Blanc
A well-executed rope splice is almost invisible to the untrained eye. That is precisely what makes it so remarkable. At Greppon Blanc, the six strands of the 28-ton haul rope were carefully opened and then meticulously woven back together by hand, drawing on years of experience, precision, and craftsmanship. In this way, two separate rope ends were transformed into one continuous endless haul rope.
After the installation of the nearly 3.5-kilometre-long rope, it was given several days to settle and stretch naturally. This allowed the excess rope length to be removed during the splicing process, ensuring particularly precise adjustment of the final rope length.
Under perfect weather conditions, the demanding precision work was completed successfully. For the team from Seilbahnen Schweiz, the assignment also proved to be a rewarding team-building event.
A big thank you to everyone involved for their outstanding teamwork and commitment. The new 6-seat chairlift is scheduled to enter service for the upcoming season.
