Fixed-Grip 4-Seater Chairlift Successfully Opened in Ushuaia
Located in southern Argentina between the Andes, impressive glaciers and the South Pacific, lies Ushuaia. Known as “La ciudad del fin del mundo” – the city at the end of the world – it is home to one of Bartholet’s southernmost ropeway projects.
In June 2026, the fixed-grip 4-seater chairlift was successfully commissioned. The installation will provide reliable access to the ski area and offer visitors a comfortable transportation experience in this exceptional region.
In the first phase of operation, 126 chairs are installed, providing a transport capacity of 1,450 passengers per hour. Upon completion of the final expansion stage, the total number of chairs will increase to 139, raising the capacity to 1,600 passengers per hour.
While summer is beginning in Switzerland, the winter season is starting in the Southern Hemisphere. The commissioning was therefore completed in time for the start of the season, creating ideal conditions for successful operation.
For the project team from Switzerland, the work in Ushuaia involved significant logistical challenges. The journey alone takes around 30 hours, highlighting the international scope with which Bartholet delivers projects around the world.
Material transportation also required careful planning. Delivery times were approximately eight weeks, and parts of the construction site could only be accessed using off-road vehicles.
With a line length of around 1.4 kilometres and a vertical rise of more than 200 metres, the new chairlift connects the lower and upper stations in just under eleven minutes, providing an efficient and comfortable link within the ski area.
