Construction Progress on the Jinding–Alimali 8-Passenger Gondola Lift

In western China, near the border, construction of the new Jinding–Alimali 8-passenger gondola lift is progressing according to schedule. The project forms part of the tourism development of the region surrounding Sayram Lake and Guozigou Valley, which has become an increasingly popular travel destination in recent years.

A major milestone has now been reached on site: all mechanical components in the stations and along the line have been fully installed. The current focus is on rope installation works, which are being carried out in parallel with the electrical installations and cabling in the upper station. Over the next two weeks, the mechanical systems will undergo fine adjustments before the lift is prepared for its final testing phase.

The new installation connects a lower station at approximately 2,127 metres with an upper station at about 2,359 metres above sea level. A total of 31 panoramic cabins, each accommodating eight passengers, will transport up to 1,500 passengers per hour. Covering a route of approximately 1.4 kilometres, the gondola will reach its destination in less than five minutes, providing comfortable and efficient access to the Jinding viewpoint and Sayram Lake

Official acceptance by the authorities is scheduled for mid-November. Following the successful completion of testing, the gondola lift is expected to enter service in time for the winter season and welcome its first guests.

Mount Jinding is located in the southeastern part of Guozigou. To the north lies the famous Sayram Lake, often referred to as “the last tear of the Atlantic”, while to the south visitors can enjoy impressive views of the spectacular Guozigou Bridge.

During winter, Sayram Lake transforms into an almost surreal landscape. A pastel-pink sky meets sunlit mountain peaks and crystal-blue ice, whose trapped air bubbles resemble pearls frozen in motion.

With the significant progress achieved over the past months, the start of operations is now within reach. The new gondola lift will not only strengthen the region’s tourism infrastructure but will also offer visitors breathtaking views of one of the most beautiful winter landscapes in western China.
