8-Seater Gondola Lift Jinding–Alimali Under Construction, China
Near the city of Yining in China’s western Xinjiang region, a new 8-seater gondola lift is currently under construction between Jinding and Alimali. The project forms part of the ongoing tourism development of a region that has gained increasing significance in recent years.
The border region near Kazakhstan was long considered remote and largely inaccessible. However, through the targeted expansion of its tourism infrastructure, it is increasingly developing into an attractive destination. The new gondola lift will play a key role in this transformation by improving access to the surrounding mountain landscape and providing a high-capacity transport link for visitors.
Located nearby is Lake Sayram, situated at an elevation of 2,071 metres above sea level. Due to its unique geographical location, the lake is known as the “Last Tear of the Atlantic”, as it marks the point where the final warm and humid air currents originating from the Atlantic Ocean reach the Asian continent.
The gondola lift connects the lower station at approximately 2,127 metres above sea level with the upper station at around 2,359 metres, blending harmoniously into the alpine landscape. A total of 31 panoramic cabins, each accommodating up to eight passengers, will transport up to 1,500 guests per hour.
Covering a line length of approximately 1.4 kilometres, the gondola lift reaches its destination in less than five minutes, providing comfortable and efficient access to the area.
Construction work is progressing according to schedule. The lower station is currently under construction, while preparations for the next phases of the project are already underway. Further insights into the project and its construction progress will follow in future project updates.
